Suck It, No Name

I posted about the Woody Show kerfuffle at Live 105 earlier this month so I thought I'd just do a quick follow-up for any of you that care. If there are indeed any of you that do. :o) As of yesterday, the new morning show on Live 105 is the No Name Show. Here's a little blurb from SFGate's The Poop on the transition:

No Name takes over Live 105 morning show

Since we're fast becoming the Bay Area parenting blog, pop culture emporium and radio industry news blog, I thought I'd give readers closure and let you know that No Name is taking over the morning slot on 105.3, in place of the recently ousted Woody, Tony and Ravy. It will be called The No Name Show, and starts tomorrow.

Several commenters predicted this event in last week's post about The Woody Show going off the air. And it does make a lot of sense. No Name has Bay Area roots and worked at Live 105 before he started doing the Sarah and No Name morning show at Alice 97.3 from 2005 to 2008. He also appears to be a team player -- even though he didn't fit with the Alice demographic, he always seemed to try making the best of the situation. (I liked the dude, as I wrote here. I also think that the Alice morning show, from the little I've heard, has a better balance with Vinnie back, and that No Name will thrive on a station where more listeners will appreciate his love for El Caminos, knives and Glenn Danzig.) I'm told that Live 105 veteran and Woody Show producer Greg Gory will stay on doing traffic, weather and news, and morning show personality White Menace will continue his employment behind the scenes, but not on the air. (I wouldn't mind if that changes. Even as I made fun of him in our little blogging skirmish of 2008, I thought he was entertaining.)

I spoke with CBS Radio director of communications Akilah Bolden-Monifa a few minutes ago, and she said the format will be the same -- with an even mix of talk and music.

Woody hasn't said much today about the hiring on his Twitter page, but he did confirm his attendance at The Woody Show's "I Quit This Bitch" going-away party on May 1 in San Jose. His wife is about to have a baby, and he recently moved to St. Louis.

No Name (real name: Mike something-or-other) got his start doing college radio at Santa Clara University, and has also worked on TV including the HGTV show "House Detective" and the MTV show "Boiling Point." In today's Live 105 press release, he said this about what he's been doing since leaving Alice: "I've basically been on a 9 month vision-quest. I've toured the country. Met its people. Slept on its barroom floors. I can say with full confidence nothing beats the bay!"

And yes, he'll be in the same time slot as Sarah and Vinnie. But they're both owned by CBS Radio (and I believe in the same building on Battery Street with their bosses) so I'm guessing the competitive hostility will be kept to a minimum.

As I said in the earlier post, I'm not a morning radio listener by nature but I tried about five minutes of No Name's show both yesterday and today and I gotta say: meh. It has a waaaay different vibe than the Woody Show did and it seems like it should be on The Bone. Lots of rock talk and "Yeahs!" and I imagine lots of rock horn hand gestures getting thrown about... right before a 6-year-old 311 song plays. It's weird.

What's worse is I've been following Woody's Twitter posts the last few days and this morning discovered that he, in fact, thinks my fake boyfriend Greg Gory is an ass:

Greg does sound odd on the new show and he's not really doin' it for me anymore but dang! I don't want to know that he didn't like the other guys!!! It doesn't really affect my life in any real way but it does still bum me out a little. Hmph. Everything's just falling apart.
