Random Round-Up 17

Robert had mentioned to me a few weeks back that Hurricane - from American Gladiators, of course - was going to be in Beijing in the javelin. He'd read something about it in one of his magazines (Rolling Stone? I can't remember.) and said that, in the accompanying photo, Hurricane still had his doofy pink hair. (Ugh. He's really not one of the more intimidating Gladiators to begin with - does he really need to color his hair like cotton candy? After learning that he is dating fellow pink-haired Gladiator Phoenix, I thought maybe he matched his hair as a token of his love. Not so much - Robert said the article said his hair is always like that. Sweet.) Anyway, I came across the following photo of Hurricane (né Breaux Greer) with somewhat normal hair at Us Weekly's site and thought Robert might enjoy a peek:

Apparently, Breaux (dude, you're name is Ed. Get over yourself.) is actually a darn good javelin thrower. According to Wikipedia,
He is an eight time American Champion and American record holder for the javelin with a throw of 91.29 meters, achieved on 06/21/07 during the U.S. Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Indianapolis.

Not too shabby. Good for you, Hurricane! Now fix your hair.

Concierge.com has posted a feature on the world's worst celebrity hotel guests. It has a lot of the people you'd expect to see on the list - Johnny Depp, Russell Crowe, Britney Spears - but also a couple surprises. It's worth a gander if you have time.

Random Olympic Bits

These blurbs really have nothing to do with anything but I enjoyed them so I thought you might, too.

Matt and Al are Beautiful Butterflies

Many ladies go swoony at the sight of Matt Lauer in Spandex... I am most decidedly not one of those ladies but if you are, then this is the video for you! :o)

Michael Phelps' SI Cover

I don't really find Michael Phelps super attractive - you all know how important teeth are to me! - but I can definitely see how others find him irresistibly sexy. He does have a hot body, that's for sure... and he seems like a nice guy. :o)

And while it's a bit mean-spirited, I enjoyed this entry from dlisted on Phelps' forthcoming Sports Illustrated cover:

The king of all humans, Michael Phelps, shot this Sports Illustrated cover on Sunday night in China. The issue will already be on newsstands tomorrow. Those bitches are quick!

This is what I don't understand. Why would they cover up his hot body?! That shit is his real gold medal! I mean, they really should have just wrapped the gold medals around the top of his head instead. Hide the flaws and show us what we really want to see!

If you are interested in some more shirtless Phelps action check out JustJared's photos of Phelps relaxing at the Speedo Sports Club at the Jintai Art Museum on Tuesday in Beijing, China.

UPDATE: I think this photo essay has effectively cured me of any attraction, minuscule as it may be, I might be inclined to feel toward Michael Phelps. Even if I could get past the snaggle teeth, I could never overlook the pornstache-plus-askew-baseball-hat combo. Never.

Silver Medalist in Pole Vault Has Jerk as Coach

If any of you saw the final vaults in the women's pole vault competition, you probably saw American Jenn Stuczynski get balled out by her coach after winning the silver medal. The guy was a real dick - even the announcers commented on it!! He really ripped her up and did not give the "a silver is still great!" kind of pep talk one would have hoped for. I didn't find anything on the Web about it until I saw this from Television Without Pity:
Pole vaulter Jennifer Stuczynski has a bastard for a coach. I mean, he must be doing something right with his screaming and insulting techniques since she won a silver medal after starting the sport just four years ago, but he's a dick. When she won, instead of being like, "Hey, you came in second to the world record holder. Awesome!" he screamed out his critique of what she did wrong from the stands. There's a time and a place for it. Berating someone in the middle of the Bird's Nest stadium is not appropriate. And during Jennie's little sideline interview, she's like, "Oh, I can't wait to go see my coach and family." He must have brainwashed her. That's the only explanation.

Luckily, Jezebel has since posted a video of the coach's verbal ego deflater. What a boob.
