Procrastination

Finals are starting up this week and life is sucking accordingly. (I had Animal Care yesterday AM and wound up staying and studying until 5. Informative but oh-so-long tiring.) I have 2 finals on Wednesday, 2 next Tuesday and 1 next Thursday. Then I'm done! Until then, things look a little more like this:

Meet the Cloven Hooves!

I can't believe it but it's just about the end of the quarter! I have 2 finals next week and 3 finals the following week and then *POOF!* I have one quarter of veterinary technology under my belt. Only 7 more to go!

I had Animal Care yesterday afternoon as I mentioned in an earlier post and I surreptitiously snapped a few photos of the program's bovids.

First up is Frankie, our brand new baby goat. He's only 7 months old and we just got him last week. The poor thing is so distressed by his new surroundings - it's just awful! The other large animals are just plain mean to the interloper and he just follows humans around everywhere like a big puppy. Frankie constantly runs to the gate to be let out and just 'baas' all day long, poor thing. He's ADORABLE! I just hope the others start accepting him sooner than later. :o(

The little strip of black fur on his back is actually a mohawk. It's so darn cute I can't stand it!

This is Alvin, the alpha sheep. He's a lovebug, too, and a chow hound!

This is Theodore, our other sheep. He's super skittish and runs away from the slightest sound or movement. I have managed to pet him more than once, though, so I feel very accomplished.

This is Bonnie, who, up until recently, was our only goat. She's fairly skittish as well but all the animals come out when it's feeding time.

Here are Bonnie and Frankie snacking from the hay trough. Usually no one lets Frankie in to eat so I'm glad he's getting his share!

And, just for kicks, here's a photo of some of the white boards made up during my most recent study session. I had 2 quizzes and a midterm last week and one of the quizzes was entirely on identifying muscles and what they do. I was quite stressed about that quiz but I think it turned out all right. Muscles made me miss bones desperately.

Hmm...

Does there come a point when your dog is too comfortable in the house? Not for me!

Only 234 Days Til Part 2!

I just wanted to post a little addendum to my last post because Robert and I ended up seeing Deathly Hallows not on Sunday afternoon but Saturday night. As it turned out, I had my head up my ass when I bought the ticket on Fandango because I had the PM Animal Care shift on Sunday (I thought I was AM) so there was no way I was going to be able to see Harry at 3:45. So, Robert was near the theater (Dublin IMAX) on Saturday afternoon and stopped in to have a chat with Customer Service. They were actually very amenable to letting us swap times, so we chose the 10:15 Saturday night showing and go to see the movie in spite of my stupidity. SCORE! (The movie was soooo good. I have been in a Harry Potter fog all weekend...) Fandango mentions in teensy tiny print that exchanging tickets at the theater's box office may be an option but is "unlikely." But we did it so I thought I'd let you all know in case you ever find yourselves in a similar bind.

And because I can rarely have an HP post without a video, here's part 1 of "Behind the Magic: Deathly Hallows":

Harry Potter Cast Speaks 'American'

Robert drove by Union Landing last night (around 8 or so) and said the street next to the movie theater was completely shut down. People were wiaint in line with sleeping bags and folding chairs to see Deathly Hallows. I don't think that's ever happened here in the poky ol' Tri-Cities! I, of course, bought our tickets several days ago and Robert and I are seeing it in IMAX on Sunday afternoon. (How much do 2 IMAX tickets cost when you buy'em through Fandango? Click the 'Comments' to find out!) I CAN'T WAIT! And, seriously, I'm suuuuuuuper excited that I have no tests the following week. Sunday can just be Harry Potter all day! Woohoo!

Giants Parade

Robert took a very rare day off from work and went to the Giants' victory parade with Bob and Jose (his uncle) on the 3rd. The three of them left the house before the sun was out and I think they got to the city by 6:45. Completely ridiculous in my mind but (1) not surprising considering the group and (2) they did wind up getting an excellent position, right at the corner of Market and McAllister. Jose provided most of the photos but I sprinkled in a few of Robert's, too (his are the ones without titles). Apparently our camera battery died about 2 seconds into the parade... Robert was super happy, as you can imagine. ;o) I'm really glad Robert went; he was waffling about what to do but such a die hard fan HAS to go to the parade if he has the chance! And he had a great time - he was hoarse for three days after the fact.

Maria + Tennis

Maria was on the tennis team while she was at Washington and she's still a member of the USTA. As such, she participates in tournaments fairly regularly and Robert and I were able to catch one a couple weekends ago at Central Park. I failed to bring an actual camera with me so these are pretty sad camera phone photos but I wanted to snap something of her match because she and her partner Sabari (I'm sure I'm just butchering the spelling of the man's name - sorry!) won! The spectator seating at the Fremont tennis center leaves something to be desired but it was fun to watch Maria in action.

GO GIANTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did dogs start howling around your house around 7:30 tonight? I thought so. They were responding to Robert's screams of glee as the Giants won the Series. The videography of the following is pretty rough but I thought some of you out there might get a kick out of watching Robert sing and dance (though I use the terms loosely) in celebration:

(Sorry the video is so long... had I more time, I would've edited out the slow parts but I had to get this bad boy up FAST! If you make it to 3:59, though, you'll be rewarded with startled puppies and a horrible, horrible Lauren cackle.)

Quigley was our good luck charm - or "golden dog" as Robert called him - because he was with us at our place for 4 of the 5 games. Can you guess which one he missed? Yeah. So we (*cough*Robert*cough*) made it a point to pick up Quigs before the final 2 games. And it worked! Thanks, Quigs.
